Coquillettidia buxtoni (Edwards, 1923)

This genus is represented with only 2 species in the coverage of this identification key. Coquillettidia species have no pre or post spiracular setae. They have big claws at the end of 5th tarsomere and can be distinguished by their wide scales. Coquillettidia buxtoni have a dark abdomen and proboscis while Coquillettidia richiardii is more light coloured, thus identification is relatively easy. The general look of the mosquito resembles of an Aedes species.
