Anopheles pharoensis (L)

Anopheles (Cellia) pharoensis Theobald, 1901

CARACTERES DIAGNOSTIQUES
La larve d'An. pharoensis est proche de celle d'An. multicolor ; elle s'en distingue par ses soies 2-C aciculées et ses soies 3-C en buisson. Chez An. pharoensis, la soie 1-I n'est formée que de 6 à 7 folioles étroites.

BIOLOGIE DE L'ESPÈCE
Largement distribuée en Afrique tropicale, elle n'est toutefois présente qu'en Egypte. Elle est par signalée en Israël, Jordanie, Arabie Saoudite, Syrie et Yémen.
Ses larves se développent dans les marais, les petites mares herbeuses situées sur le bord de rivières, les rizières. En Egypte, la présence de papyrus est souvent associée à ces gîtes.
Les gîtes larvaires étant souvent très vastes et productifs, cette espèce peut constituer localement une nuisance importante. Les femelles sont plutôt zoophiles et piquent de préférence le bétail; elles pénètrent cependant dans les habitations humaines pour piquer.
An. pharoensis est un vecteur de paludisme en Egypte.
