Phlebotomus major s.l. Annandale, 1910
Subgenus: Larroussius Nitzulescu, 1931
Phlebotomus major s.l. comprises morphologically similar species. This species complex comprises six species P. major, P. wui, P. notus, P. wenyoni, P. syriacus and P. neglectus. Males of this complex are easily distinguished from the other Larroussious males by their drum stick like parameral sheath (aedegus). The specific discrimination within the complex mainly relies on the morphological measurements that shows great geographical variation. Therefore molecular diagnosis is recommended especially where these members distributes sympatrically.
