Subgenus: Synphlebotomus Theodor, 1948
Female Synphlebotomus species are distinguished from the other subgenera by their segmented spermathecae with a not enlarged apical segment and their characteristic pharyngeal armature consists of irregular scales or dot like teeth. The specific discrimination within the subgenus is mainly relies on the characteristic shape and arrangement of the pharyngeal teeth.
