Anopheles gambiae Giles, 1902
Type-loc: Gambiae Valley, West Africa, now Gambia
The An. gambiae larva is close to that of An. rhodesiensis rupicola from which it differs by its non palmate setae 3-T, its pectinate setae 1-P, and the shortness of its seta 1-X.
The An. gambiae larva is also close to An. multicolor from which it differs by its setae 9-M and 10-M simple (not feathered).
