Difficult to differentiate from Ae. caspius. Number of seta 1-S branches are less numerous in Ae. dorsalis (3 to 5) than in Ae. caspius (5 to 10) as well as for seta 3-VIII (5 to 8 for Ae. dorsalis and 7 to 14 for the Ae. caspius) have been proposed as diagnostic characters. Median tooth of comb scales seems less conspicuous than in Ae. caspius.
