Ae. versicolor females are similar to the females of Ae. pulcritarsis, but Ae. versicolor larvae are very different from Ae. pulcritarsis by numerous stellate setae with many branches on the abdomen, by inner frontal setae (2-3 branches in Ae. versicolor and 8-10 branches in Ae. pulcritarsis), by saddle seta (1-X) with 4-7 branches in Ae. versicolor and a simple seta in Ae. pulcritarsis, by the shape of anal papillae.
