Aedes pulcritarsis (L)

Aedes pulcritarsis (Rondani, 1872)
Type-loc: Italy

Close to Aedes berlandi but siphon shorter (index usually less than 5), comb scales in a row, setae 13-T much longer than setae 14-M are diagnostic.

Ae. versicolor larvae are very different from Ae. pulcritarsis by numerous stellate setae with many branches on the abdomen, by inner frontal setae (2-3 branches in Ae. versicolor and 8-10 branches in Ae. pulcritarsis), by saddle seta (1-X) with 4-7 branches in Ae. versicolor and a simple seta in Ae. pulcritarsis, by the shape of anal papillae.
