walravensi (L)

Anopheles (Cellia) walravensi Edwards, 1930

CARACTERES DIAGNOSTIQUES
Cette espèce, proche d'An. njombiensis, se distingue par ses soies palmées 1-II qui présentent des dentelures au niveau du décrochement et un filament bien individualisé.

BIOLOGIE DE L'ESPÈCE
An. walravensi est une espèce des forêts d'altitude d'Afrique centrale et australe. Elle est morphologiquement proche d'An. schwetzi dont elle se distingue par l'ornementation alaire.
Les larves d'An. walravensi se développent dans des étendues d'eau permanentes à végétation aquatique dressée comme les mares ou encore les bords de fleuves ou de rivières. Elles ont été récoltées en association avec An. schwetzi, An. coustani . An. marshalli, An. funestus et An. maculipalpis .
La biologie des adultes d'An. walravensi est mal connue, Cette espèce est zoophile, de très nombreuses femelles ont été capturées grâce à divers appâts animaux. Au Zimbabwe celles-ci piquent cependant l'homme en savane ouverte.
